Before construction of a new building or structure, or renovating an existing one, an owner, or the owner's builder, architect, engineer, or agent, shall submit an application in writing to the City of Clarkston Building Department for a building permit. A permit is also required when the use or occupancy of a structure or portion thereof is changed.

Historic District
Remember that if your home or business is in the Historic District (PDF), it is your responsibility as a property owner to get the proper approvals before starting your project.

Any exterior alterations must be approved by the Historic District Commission, with the exception of simple maintenance. The regulations do not include paint color.
